What is covered in a typical art class ?

For elementary school students , (K -5) :Fundamentals of shapes and steps to a make drawing are emphasized. They are encouraged to draw more and more complex pictures using the strong foundation on fundamentals . Coloring focus with color pencils / oil pastels are done in parallel as well with color theory taught, Apart from this there will be an imagination topic homework given every month where they have to draw and color. There will also be a winter painting project.

Final projects end of the school year – Elementary : 

• K – coloring project with oil pastels
• 1st grade – coloring project with color pencils
• 2nd grade – Drawing and simple shading 
• 3rd grade – Animals with shading
• 4th grade – Still life with shading
• 5th grade – Landscape with shading

Middle School+ students :Projects of different mediums will be the focus. Two projects for each medium. More mediums / techniques taught depending on how fast they are able to complete the following medium – projects(*)

• Water color
• Ink
• Charcoal
• Oil / chalk Pastels
• Acrylic landscape
• Glass painting
• Acrylic Still life
• Impasto 
• Oil Painting 
• Relief work
• Murals
• Metal work
• Tanjore / Mysore painting techniques

Adults – There is no set curriculum for adults. 

Why does it take longer than 2 weeks to complete some paintings ?

A> Each student will be given a painting to work on. Students are taught painting techniques and they will be encouraged to identity colors, test colors to match the picture so that they can learn to be confident to try new paintings at home on their own. This will take at least couple of classes. In order for them implement the methods and complete the painting it will take anywhere between 4  to 6 classes classes at a minimum. For middle school + students , it may take unto 8-10 classes to complete depending on the complexity of the painting.If they need to complete faster, they will be given homework and its expected they will follow the instructions given to complete the specific parts of the painting at home.

Can I have a different curriculum for my child in class ?

A> Certainly there are exceptions to above as Art is based on individual talent. However please note oil painting is not covered for elementary school students . Parents are requested to discuss with the teacher before or after class  or by phone / messages /email. 

What are the contests my child will participate in ?

A> As and when relevant and interesting contests come along students/Parents will be informed. Participation is voluntary.

Participation is encouraged (not mandatory) in the art competitions as it would give appreciation, discipline and understanding the subjective nature of Art appreciation by others which is crtical in their art journey.   Also judging art work (painting , drawing etc) is one of the hardest tasks as there are no fixed/defined set of rules as in other fine art forms.There will be at least one no-theme contest and at least one – theme based contest they will be encouraged to participate every year. 

What is the class policy for absence ?

A> All Students are requested to come to class at the assigned times. If the student is unable to make it to class at the regular assigned time there is a make up class on Friday from 5:15 to 6:15 PM. Please message if you are going to use the make up class due to absence at the regular times. If the student is going to be absent for more than 4 or 6 weeks , please inform so that the spot is there for them when they are able to come back to class.

Do you teach differently enabled or special needs students ?

A> At this time this is not offered as we are not trained or equipped to teach differently enabled students.
